How do you solve x+5=14?

The quickest way ... even faster than posting it online and waiting around
for an answer ... is to subtract 5 from each side. 

As soon as you've done that, you have    x = 9    and that's the solution.

x+5=14

x=14-5

Therefore, x=9.
