A box contains 8 yellow, 3 orange and 5 purple candies. A tray contains 7 red, 4 blue and 9 orange drinks. If Asia chooses one candy and one drink without looking, what is the probability that she will get a yellow candy and not an orange drink. Give your answer as a simplified fraction.

(Please show your answer so I can do it too! Thank in advance as well cuz I stink at math...)

Respuesta :

The probability is 11/40.

The probability of picking a yellow candy is 8/16, since there are 8 yellow candies out of 16 total.
The probability of choosing a drink that isn't orange is 11/20, since 11 of the 20 drinks are not orange.

Together this gives us
8/16(11/20) = 88/320 = 11/40.
