Molly says that 4/8 is always the same 1/2. Andrew says that 4/8 and 1/2 are equivalent fractions, but they could be different amounts.

Andrew is correct, because 1/2 could mean any fraction that’s equal to 1/2. 5/10 could also be 1/2. 2/4 could also be 1/2. 8/16 could also be 1/2. They are equivalent, but 1/2 could be a different amount.
