What was the relationship between trade and the spread of phoenician alphabet?

Trade was very important for the Phoenicians, they built their civilization based on trade. Trade has made them make contact with many other people, and the people they met often adopted their alphabet (such as the Greeks). So: the alphabet spread thanks to trade and along the trade routes.
