I would classify this statement as a description of gender roles.
So, men were assigned with hunting, and women with gathering food from plants. These jobs were assigned to them based on their gender - usually women weren't as strong or brave enough to go hunting at the time (or it was thought so), so men were the ones to do that. On the other hand, it wasn't masculine enough to go and pick berries, which is why women did it.
