What is 'Method acting'? Why would an actor use 'Method acting'?

Method acting is when an actor uses his own life experiences and rehearsals in order to portray his character. For example, when he needs to cry, he can think of a really sad moment in his life and cry instead of fake crying. This is used to make the play or movie more realistic and easier to act out.
