The War of Jenkin’s Ear, as this inconclusive Anglo-Spanish conflict was dubbed a century later, became part of a wider struggle with France and Spain over control of the Habsburg monarchy in Austria. The North American theater of this War of the Austrian Succession, known as King George’s War, further cemented the bonds between colonists and Britain’s transatlantic empire.
