What was ironic about the Sniper’s remorse after shooting his opponent on the other side of the street? Explain

Answer:

He feels badly about killing his enemy. He regrets that he had to kill another skilled shooter, and feels guilty over it. This reveals that while he is a sniper,  he is a human with feelings and not a killing machine. He is doing his job for the war, but doesn't take pleasure in it.
