The equation would be worded as: 2m+16=36.


Solve! Using the subtraction property of equality, 2m=20. Then the division property of equality lets us figure out that m=10.

Sixteen more than twice a number m is 36:

2m + 16 = 36      subtract 16 from both sides

2m = 20       divide both sides by 2

m = 10
